Asthma
Last Updated: Tuesday, 13 August 2024Asthma is a common lung condition that causes occasional breathing difficulties. It can affect people of all ages and often starts in childhood, although it can also develop for the first time in adults.
There are simple treatments that can help keep the symptoms under control so it does not have a big impact on your life.
The usual symptoms of asthma are:-
- Coughing
- Wheezing
- Shortness of breath
- Tightness in the chest
Not everyone will get all of these symptoms. Some people experience them from time to time; a few people may experience these symptoms all the time.
How we will help you manage your Asthma
To help you manage your Asthma, we will invite you to attend the surgery for an annual review. This is an opportunity to check that you are getting the best care you need and to stay healthy. It also gives you the opportunity to discuss any concerns that you might have regarding your health. You will be seen by one of our Practice Nurses who will work with you to put together your own individual treatment plan, combining medicines and asthma management in a way that works best for you.
If you become unwell with a flare-up of your Asthma, known as an exacerbation, please contact us for advice.
