Confidentiality, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) & Medical Records
Ellergreen Medical Centre complies with GDPR and access to medical records legislation. Identifiable information about you will be shared with others in the following circumstances, unless you have informed us you do not wish your data to be shared:
- To provide further medical treatment for you e.g. from district nurses and hospital services.
- To help you get other services e.g. from the social work department. This requires your consent.
- When we have a duty to others e.g. in child protection cases.

Ellergreen Medical Centre participates in the supply of anonymised patient data to Clinical Practice Research Datalink. CPRD collects data from primary care which is provided to epidemiologists (who have licenses) who carry out public health research. CPRD is part of the Medicines and healthcare products Regulatory Agency who use the data to monitor for the safety of medicines. GP Connect helps clinicians gain access to GP patient records during interactions away from a patient’s registered practice and makes their medical information available to appropriate health and social care professionals when and where they need it, to support the patient’s direct care. From a privacy, confidentiality and data protection perspective, GP Connect provides a method of secure information transfer and reduces the need to use less secure or less efficient methods of transferring information, such as email or telephone. GP Connect can only be used for direct care purposes. Individuals can opt out of their GP patient record being shared via GP Connect by contacting their GP practice. Click here for more information.

Text Messaging
You can now receive information regarding your appointments and health care by text message directly on on your phone. Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) this is defined as providing appropriate care for patients, not marketing purposes. If you would like to opt in or out of this service then please indicate your preference on our consent form.
Access to Records
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Access to Health Records Act, patients may request to see their medical records. Such requests should be made directly to the practice. No information will be released without patient consent unless we are legally obliged to do so.
Freedom of Information
Information about the General Practitioners and the practice required for disclosure under this act can be made available to the public. All requests for such information should be made to the practice manager.
