Tests and Specimens

To help us manage your condition we may ask you to go for a blood or other test. This is generally for review purposes to try to maintain your health. A blood test usually involves taking a blood sample from a blood vessel in your arm. Blood samples from children are most commonly taken from the back of the hand whereby their hand will be anaesthetised (numbed) with a special cream before the sample is taken.

The invitation we send you for will include details of where to go to have your test and how to collect the forms you'll need to take with you.

Test results will come to the practice within a variable period of time depending on the type of test. If you are advised to contact us for results then please do so using our normal telephone number. We may contact you to request that you make an appointment to see a Doctor, Nurse or Health Care Assistant following your test. Any results that require immediate treatment will be relayed to you as soon as possible.

Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.

If you are asked to bring in a specimen of urine or any other sample, please bring it in early in the morning as the courier collects the specimens from ourselves at 11am Monday to Friday for delivery to the laboratory.
