Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

Blood pressure is recorded with two numbers. The systolic pressure (higher number) is the force at which your heart pumps blood around your body. The diastolic pressure (lower number) is the resistance to the blood flow in the blood vessels between heartbeats when blood is pumped around your heart. Both are measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg).

Everyone's blood pressure will be slightly different. What's considered low or high for you may be normal for someone else. Click here for a general guide on blood pressure.

How we will help you manage your Blood Pressure

To help you control your blood pressure, we will invite you to attend the surgery for an annual review. This is an opportunity to check that you are getting the best care you need and to stay healthy. It also gives you the opportunity to discuss any concerns that you might have regarding your health. You will be seen by our Health Care Assistant (HCA) who will record your blood pressure and ask you some simple questions regarding your lifestyle, such as diet and exercise. Our HCA can also help you to identify simple, achievable goals to help you manage your blood pressure, and signpost you to services that may be of benefit.
